Youth Movement

As Royals fans we here all the time about building the clubs future with the young players in the system. There are some very promising players in the pipeline, Billy Butler, Alex Gordon, Justin Huber and Chris Lubanski. The present has some promising players on the major league roster, David DeJesus, Angel Berroa, Mark Teahan and John Buck, although some would argue that these guys have any promise. They also have Mike Sweeney, who has been an All-Star, and a couple of other veterans that are very serviceable. I saw a post on the RoyalBoard saying the this years roster will have 10 younger players and 15 veterans, not a bad mix.

That said here is what has most Royals fans up in arms, Aaron Guiel being optioned to Triple-A Omaha and keeping 24 year old Shane Costa. Aaron has a large number of fans rooting for him, same as I was pulling for Super Joe. Can Royals fans ever be happy?

We all have the opening day roster set in our minds. Now the Royals have gone and screwed it all up by sending away our favorite underdog players. For me this year it was Super Joe, for a large number of fans it was Aaron. Last year it was Calvin Pickering over Ken Harvey and Emil Brown over Aaron. I think they gave up on Calvin to soon last year and I'm still not sold on Emil.

Maybe we should just enjoy this coming year and root for the Royals to win and stop whining about backups not making the team!

SUPER JOE!!

The Royals have released one of the little guys that some of us root for. Although he is no offensive threat, he was capable of playing all of the infield positions as well as playing the outfield. In his place the Royals picked up Tony Graffanino and his 2 million salary. The Royals will have to either keep Esteban German or have Graf play short to give Angel Berroa a day off.

Here are some other comments on Super Joe, Long Live Super Joe and Goodbye Super Joe, Hello Angel .

I will be rooting for two teams this summer, the Royals and who ever Super Joe plays for!!

Spring Training

I had a great opportunity March 17th to the 20th watching spring training games in Arizona. I spent the time there with my brother Ron. Here is his recordings of our trip, 4 days in the Valley.

If you want more Ron's friend Dan was also there. Here is his recordings of our trip, Cactus League Day 4, then scroll down to see days 1 through 3.

We all had a great time, although the weather could have been better. When I arrived home early Tuesday morning it was snowing!
