Still Here

Just haven't taken time to keep up with this. I will work on this in the next few weeks. Baseball is in full swing now so maybe I can blog while watching the Royals. The Royals have an outside chance this year to win the division, they need to score more then 2 runs a game though.

Happy Easter to all!

Debt Free

In January of 2006 I had whined my way into another trip to Phoenix for Royals
spring training. The thing is I didn’t have the money to go, so I charged the trip. Then in February I grabbed Financial Peace and started reading. I also picked up a XM radio and started listening to Dave in the afternoons. It didn’t take long to discover that I was wrong, as Dave would say my plan wasn’t working. I decided that we should start the baby steps. I still had the trip and one more thing to charge, the rental car. Once the trip was over we went about working together to get out of debt.

When we totaled the debt, not including the house, it totaled almost $37,000! This was crazy! I started to wonder if we could do this, pay down our debt and not charge more. We started simple, putting every thing we could to the snowball. A couple of months into the process we picked up The Total Money Makeover. We discovered that we needed to do a monthly budget every month. Once we really got rolling, we were blessed with more money. We handled that money the best way possible, pay down the snowball! By October of 06 we had paid off a car, profit sharing loan and three credit cards! We had paid off half of our debt in 6 months!

At this point we had Christmas coming so we saved for presents. In January we decided to save for two upcoming events, our daughter’s high school graduation and first year of college. We had always wanted to pay for our children’s college. As a fan of Dave we knew that we couldn’t get any loans for her school. Again we were blessed with more money, which we saved.

In August we had saved up 3 – 6 months of expenses, and were in position to cash flow college. We were in good shape for getting the last debt paid off by July of 08. Once again we were blessed with more money, guess what we could do? March of 2008 we paid off the HELOC! We are now debt free!

Notice the difference between the I in the beginning and we after starting working together. It has been a great journey, together. We are closer than ever before!

In February of this year my wife got sick. Knowing that we are financially stable we were able to focus on getting her well, not how can we afford this. This has been a life changing journey!

Move in Day

We moved our daughter into her dorm room yesterday. We were able to move her in a day earlier then the rest of the dorm because she in part of a LLC. Here is a picture of her new room.

More on the move and having no children at home.

Royals on Radio

On Wednesday night I was listening to the Royals on the radio. The Royals a pretty good pair of announcers, Denny Mathews and Ryan Lefebvre. The television announcers are not that great, Bob Davis and Paul Splittorff. Now Split is tolerable at best and Davis is just terrible. Back to Wednesday, Davis was on the radio with Brian McRae. I only listened for about 30 minutes and it was just painful. The Royals had Ryan and Split on television that night. They should never allow Davis and McRae on the radio every again.

Ideas for Blogs

Work, being short handed and other annoying things.
Debt free and kids in college don't mix.
Church, not long ago this wouldn't have been anywhere near a list for me.
Royals, no where but up!
Chiefs, here is to Lamar.
Grandpa, the difference from being a dad.
Christmas letters, how do they do it? I can't remember last week!

Getting Easier?

I was hoping that by trying to blog everyday or so it would be getting easier. Well, it hasn't! It's not that I don't have time, it doesn't take long to type a few words unless one has a hard time spelling. It's not that there isn't anything to write about, I think of things all the time. It's just when I sit here in front of the screen I kind of just go dumb, which isn't that far most of the time. My hope for now is that this will slowly get easier.

Goals for 2007

Like most people this time of year I have set some goals for 2007. I have set some basic type of goals and some very aggressive goals. I have set a goal of reading a book a month. I have started reading more in the past 5 years or so. Every once in a while I get an urge and will read something. This past year I may have tackled 4 or 5 books. I will start this year with a book that I read, "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. This will help my with two goals that I have, reading more and growing spiritually. I will try to get keep you informed on my goals for 2007.

Wild Card

Well the Chiefs got the breaks needed to get into the playoffs this year. Do you think that Lamar Hunt had anything to do with this wild weekend? The Chiefs needed to win and have 3 teams loose, the Broncos, Bengals and Titans, to get in. Now they get to go play the Colts, maybe some revenge for twice loosing to them here in the playoffs.
